Risperdal for the Treatment of ADHD Has Dire Consequences for Young Boys

“It is not the culture of U.S. medicine to report adverse events to the FDA.”

Dr. David Kessler, Former FDA Commissioner

Risperdal is a powerful antipsychotic medication approved by the FDA for the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and autism.

When the manufacturer found that Risperdal could be used as treatment for ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) they began to illegally and aggressively market the drug. Unfortunately, parents quickly discovered that Risperdal was causing irreversible breast growth in boys, also known as gynecomastia. This and other extreme side effects were confirmed in early testing, but not disclosed to the public.

Patients experiencing long-term psychological and physical side effects due to this blatant negligence deserve answers, and in many cases can receive compensation.

Risperdal Manufacturer, Johnson & Johnson Puts Children at Risk

In 2013, the U.S. Department of Justice fined the manufacturer of Risperdal, Johnson & Johnson, $2.2 billion for illegally marketing Risperdal for the use of ADHD in children. Evidence points to J&J intentionally hiding studies that demonstrated Risperdal’s link to gynecomastia. Boys now in their teens with large female-like breasts are seeking financial settlement from the pharmaceutical giant for their psychological trauma and mastectomy surgery.

Risperdal Lawsuits & Settlement Landscape

As of March 2017, Johnson & Johnson was facing 18,500 Risperdal-related lawsuits. Young men who took Risperdal as a child and experience breast growth may be candidates for financial compensation. Millions of dollars have been paid to victims of Risperdal gynecomastia, and many more cases are expected to be filed and settled.

$70 Million Awarded to Tennessee Teenager

In 2016, a U.S. court ordered Johnson & Johnson to pay 16 year-old Tennessee teenager $70 million. The young man told jurors he began taking Risperdal at age 5 and was never warned about potential side effects.
